Our Mission

The mission of Region 20 Adult & Continuing Education programs include helping those individuals ages 18 and above earn a High School Equivalency (HSE) by providing instruction in the areas of reading/language, math, science, and history; creating pathways towards post-secondary training and certification programs; exploring careers and citizenship principles; and improving technology and employability skills that will be
vital now and in the future.
Region 20 (southeastern Virginia) will offer HSE programs in the areas of Adult Basic Education (ABE), General Education Development (GED) and English Language Learners (ELL/ESOL) in the cities and counties of Chesapeake, Franklin City, Isle of Wight County, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and Virginia Beach.

Connecting Opportunities Program. Funding for 30 students is granted to complete trade programs through Tidewater Community College’s Skilled Trades Academy. Participants will receive trainings and employment assistance for in-demand construction and maritime trades such as welding, roofing, National Center for Construction Education Research (NCCER) Core, and more. This program is open to those ages 18 and up who reside in Norfolk and Portsmouth and are members of the ALICE (Asset Limited Income Constrained Employed) community.
